Synthesis and structures of low valent Gallium (I) supported organometallic compounds and new organometallic routes to intermetallic Nickel-Gallium nanoparticles
- The major work of this thesis deals with the reactivity aspects of low-valent group 13 metal (I) NHC analogue, Ga(DDP) (DDP = [{(2,6-\(^{i}Pr_{2}\))C\(_{6}H_{3}\)}NCMe]\(_{2}\)CH) towards various main-group and transition metal organometallic fragments. Low-valent germylenes such as "\(Ge_{2}\) and \(Ge_{4}\)" were trapped by Ga(DDP) and DFT studies on \(Ge_{2}\) dimer showed first time the presence of a novel bonding situation between the two Ge-Ge centers which are bonded with a \(\pi\)-bond without \(sigma\)-bond. In addition, few (IPr = [:C{[N(2,6-\(^{i}Pr_{2}C_{6}H_{3})]\)CH}\(_{2}\)]) supported Ti and Zn complexes were synthesized and some emphasis is given on the reactivity differences between Ga(DDP) and IPr. Furthermore, new organometallic synthetic routes were developed for the Nickel-Gallium binary intermetallic alloy nanoparticles. The catalytic activity of obtained nanophase materials was tested for the hydrogenation of an olefin.
