A combined experimental and theoretical study of transition metal complexes containing redox noninnocent aminobenzenethiol based ligands
- Nature of redox noninnocent aminobenzenethiol ligand is though well known, isolation of monomeric, square planar Fe and Co complexes with such ligands is challenging due to kinetically facile dimerization. In this thesis a strategically designed ligand (\(LH_{2}\) with pentaflurophenyl group) is employed for this purpose leading to the synthesis of first monomeric square planar Fe and Co complexes with two closed shell dianionic ligands \((L^{2-})\). Moreover complexes \(M^{II}(L^{\bullet})_{2}\), (M = Ni, Pd, Pt) are synthesized and their singlet diradical spin states have been identified using various spectroscopic and DFT studies. Additionally another novel N,S,O-donor ligand \((^{3}LH_{2})\) is reported together with a series of polynuclear transition metal complexes based on that ligand, whose nuclearity and structure is controlled by the metal center. Spectroscopic studies on the latter endorse generation of phenoxyl radicals on oxidation.
