Development of a scanning flow cell system with dynamic electrolyte change for fully automated parameter screening
- The primary aim of this study is to utilize micro electrochemical techniques in combination with time resolved trace analysis to correlate the electrochemical behaviour and the dissolution rate of zinc in order to provide new insights into corrosion processes. Based on a formerly employed Scanning Flow Cell system, the method was essentially further developed and optimized to enable measurements in weakly alkaline electrolytes. In this regards, a specific focus is set on the investigation of precipitation processes that take place at the electrode/electrolyte interface. Since zinc is usually exposed to varying environmental conditions, the method is extended for dynamic electrolyte exchange, which is used for the investigation of the impact of changing electrolyte constituents over time for the first time in particular for the combined electrolyte system chloride and carbonate.
